Alastair studied Fine art at University College Falmouth. Since graduating he has received several awards and Bursaries for his work including, The Wilhelmina Barnes Graham Travel to Italy Bursary, The Midas award and the Richard Ford Award. He studied portrait drawing and painting In Florence, Italy at the atelier of artist Charles H Cecil and then with Nicholas Beer in the UK. In June 2015 Alastair was commissioned by the Illustrated London News to Paint Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
This is a small class with only six student spaces available. A wonderful opportunity to study with this talented shooting star of an artist. Suitable for students of all abilities. The course will provide an introduction to painting the figure from life using the Sight-size technique. Working from a single sustained pose the course offers a logical and structured approach from preliminary sketch to finished painting.
On Day One: You will cover Charcoal studies focusing on proportion, gesture and anatomy.
On Day Two: Painting in 'dead colour' with the focus on value and finding form through the flow of light.
On Day Three: Introducing colour notes to the painting, looking at accents, edges and atmosphere.
Includes lunch. Materials not included.
