Course Description
Drawing is essential to be an accurate painter, and these classes will teach you how to draw in a representational style (as it looks in life). Using proven methods that were employed by the old master artists of the Renaissance, you will learn various graphite and charcoal application techniques to develop a high level of draftsmanship.
What you will learn
How to analyse and create the steps to create accurate drawings
The importance of learning how to see, to draw representationally
How to get proportional accuracy, shape, true values and mass
Complete a series of Barque drawing studies (2D study reference)
Progress onto chiaroscuro techniques from simple classical plaster casts and still life (3D study reference)
Experience sight-sized studies to cultivate a general competency for realistic drawing.

Who is this course suitable for?
Anyone aged 10 and over
Are any materials included?
We do provide the paper and you will require an HB drawing pencil or technical pencil, putty rubber and possibly some willow charcoal. The class Tutor will guide you on which oil paints, brushes and canvases to purchase for best quality and price when you are ready to paint.
Can I skip this drawing course and go straight to painting?
No, this drawing course is essential. However, if it becomes clear you would benefit from progressing into painting during this course we can switch you over as it is the same class times as the painting.
I am an experienced artist, is this course right for me?
Yes, as artists we all have different types of education, experience and styles. Many professional artists have found this classical method incredibly valuable to their work. Feel free to discuss your individual situation with us directly.
I’m doing GCSE/A’Level Art/ building a portfolio, will this course be helpful?
Yes, learning to draw is a huge help and confidence boost to the national curriculum. We will happily support students to build their portfolios.
